Exploring how the intersection between a sense of place, wellbeing, & technology can produce exceptional environments
Place. What gives a project an identity? Is it how the new house, building, or extension is well nestled within the neighbourhood? Or perhaps the way that the morning sun shimmers through the kitchen window? Each location has unique characteristics that should always be thoroughly considered in both practical and in sense-appeal manner.
Wellbeing. The places we occupy have a significant impact on our wellness and productivity. Designing spaces that can cater to our sense of wellbeing can help us feel replenished, and to work and play better, adding significant value to all parties involved design & construction.
Technology, if used appropriately, it is the binding glue that helps deliver beautiful projects. When considered, in relation to place and wellbeing, tech can be utilised as a design tool, as construction and building processes, as IOT in smart homes and offices, as something in between, or as a brand new glue, capable of keeping a rocket to Mars intact on its way there (or your building).

Dimitar S Pouchnikov, AIA
Design Philosophy
Dimitar is interested in design philosophy rooted at the intersection of design, a sense of place, and technology. This allows him to constantly explore experimental workflows to enable new forms of design, yet remain committed to the architectural impact. In fact, Dimitar is just as happy working through designs with pencil and sketch paper as he is designing with the latest computational tools. All tools are means to ultimately generate great, thoughtful, contextual, and considered design. Dimitar knows about delivery on tough projects and he always commits completely to the given project to produce the best possible outcome.
Professional Experience
Dimitar has previously worked for over 7 years as a project designer at HOK in London on leading international projects, across many typologies and frequently on projects that fall into multiple ones – mixed use, cultural, sports + entertainment, urban design, and supertall buildings. Prior to HOK, Dimitar has worked at Adjaye Associates and AHMM in London.
Teaching Experience
Dimitar currently teaches Design Studio in collaboration with Dezact. Dimitar has been invited to sit on multiple crits in the US and the UK. He also teaches technical workshops looking at how architects can better utilise digital technology for concept design and design production. He currently focuses most on teaching through UH studio’s Youtube channel.
Dimitar also collaborates with some of the leading architectural education platforms including:
Parametric Architecture PA Academy, Futurly, MEAL liveacademy.tv, Dezact, and others.
Education
Dimitar holds a postgraduate M.Arch degree from the Architectural Association, Design Research Lab Programme and a 5 year professional B.Arch degree from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, in Philadelphia.
