Blender Buildings Packs

So, I started learning Geometry Nodes in Blender. It’s just slightly different than Grasshopper. Ok, very different, but Blender already has so many non-destructive workflows that can be combined with Geometry Nodes that even in its current infancy, it offers a lot of potential for architecture and design. My test scene has been a city. When I sent over one of my first test shots to a visualiser friend of mine, he said the building suck. And he was right. He suggested I buy Evermotion packs of buildings. I do agree that they are good, but not quite optimised for Blender. So I had a look around at what building assets are available for Blender and although there are some useful choices, they don’t quite offer the flexibility that I am after the building a scene. I need light to medium poly buildings with lots of variations that look good and lively in both day and evening shots. So I made a few packs that I am really happy to share! I had a lot of fun building these and I am looking forward to make more.

Now there are a few ways to go about creating backdrop environments. OSM imports with textures works well for backgrounds but for midground and foreground, more detail is needed. The building’s I’ve created fit in that mid-to-foreground spectrum. With geometry Nodes, I event tested a scene with 1700 objects of the models here and the scenes renders well with only 4gb of GPU ram.

Smart Materials

I set up all the buildings with multiple materials that are applied at random based on the object’s location. This allows even a few models to be duplicated multiple times and to look good.

Level of Detail

The buildings are design to look good from both a long distance away and from closeup shots

Interior Cube Maps and Random Blinds

To keep the geometry light, the buildings use cube maps with textures applied at random. And there are also random blinds that can be controlled. Both the interiors and the blinds work with Cycles and Eevee

The Collection

There are four building packs, each with 4 buildings inside, and three for the glass towers.

Building Pack 1 - Everyday City

This pack is not the start actually, as there were a lot of quick dirty building I made initially, so these are the first cleaned up buildings that represent a good variety of building present in most cities.

The pack consists of four buildings modelled to scale.

Building Pack 2 - Residential

In this pack, the focus has been to create building reminiscent of modern residential apartment blocks present in many places in the world. They get a bit funkier and you may tell that I love designing buildings even when I am not designing building in the office!

Building Pack 3 - Brick and More

Yep, this pack is all about the brick, well for two buildings, the other two have the same multi-material as the rest of the buildings

Building Pack 4 - Glass Towers

They are always lurking around and are needed. Glass, though, is the trickiest material to get right in urban scenes. I provide walkthroughs to show you how you can adjust the glass based on your scene. This pack has three towers.
